I sandwich my head between my pillow and mattress. My scalp like a single slice of bologna between two pieces of white bread. Mayonnaise sticking to it from both sides. Our new mattress is much larger than before and I’m not sure if you’re still here. In the past I would reach over to feel the heat from your thigh. Our new mattress is much larger than before. Stubbornly, I lift my head to open one eye. Im alone in this bed. It’s much larger than before. The baby cries. The dogs bark. The alarm buzzes.

Inferno
The breeze from Youngs Bay cools us down
You ordered another two fingers of bottom shelf brown
This year we wont make it there
Or the Merry Time bar
Posts on the pier
We stick together like tar

Couscous
In crevices
I didn’t know concealed
I presented you a pile
First fluffy
You turned to fragments
Flung among the floor
Call in the cleaning crew
Four legs times two
Canine custodians
Committed to consume
How was the Couscous
No thank you?

Again in the kitchen
Bottoms up
Feelings down
Unload your day
They’ll be forgiven
Load the washer
A glass of water
What to do
With my hours
Not spent with you
July 21, 2021
Would you open your eyes
Strip down to your chest and thighs
Listen closely
Talk soft not boastfully
